Nakheel Tower To Become The World’s Tallest Skyscraper

Nakheel TowerIt seems like the Burj Dubai will be dethroned from the “world’s tallest tower” position as (also) in Dubai will be built a one kilometer skyscraper.

The tower was designed by Woods Bagot architects and it will be built by Nakheel, the same developer which has built those fancy state-of-the-art man-made islands in Dubai.

Forgotten, man sits in jail for two years

Joseph A. ShepardJoseph A. Shepard Sr. sat in local jails for almost two years, assuming that his lawyer was making progress on his case and that drug-related charges against him would soon be resolved in federal court.

His family says lawyer Michael P. Kelly told them Shepard had pleaded guilty and would return home soon with credit for time already served behind bars.

Shepard never came home.

“It’s exciting because it opens the field up,” says Michael Greenberg, a neurobiologist at Harvard Medical School. “Nobody has [found] a gene that controls the process in quite that way before.”

Dog appears as witness in murder trial A dog nicknamed “Scooby” has become the first animal in the world to appear as a witness in a murder trial.

The animal is believed to have been with his 59-year-old owner when she was found hanging from the ceiling of her Paris flat. Police believe it was suicide but her family demanded a murder investigation.

During a preliminary hearing the pet was led into the witness box by a vet to see how it reacted to a suspect. It is said to have “barked furiously”.

The aim was to decide if there was sufficient evidence to launch a full murder inquiry and a judge is yet to reach a decision.

California prisons prepare for gay weddingsNow that same-sex couples can get married in California, state prison officials are trying to figure out what that means for gay inmates.

No prisoners so far have sought to arrange weddings with same-sex partners since the state Supreme Court granted same-sex couples the right to wed as of mid-June, according to Michele Kane, spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
